Coverse is committed to protecting your privacy. Unlike mainstream social platforms, we don't monetize your data, serve targeted ads, or sell your information to third parties.

We built Coverse to be a private sanctuary for astronomy enthusiasts. This privacy policy reflects that mission.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address (for authentication and important communications)
  • Username and display name (chosen by you)
  • Password (stored securely using industry-standard hashing)
  • Profile information you choose to add (bio, avatar)

Content You Create

We store content you post to the platform:

  • Posts, comments, and messages
  • Images you upload (astrophotography, etc.)
  • Likes and other interactions

Technical Information

We automatically collect limited technical data:

  • IP address (for security and abuse prevention)
  • Browser type and device information
  • Access timestamps (for "online" status feature)

How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to:

  • ✓Provide the service — Display your posts, enable messaging, show your profile to other members
  • ✓Communicate with you — Send account-related emails (verification, password reset, important updates)
  • ✓Ensure security — Detect abuse, prevent spam, investigate violations of our guidelines
  • ✓Improve the platform — Understand usage patterns to make Coverse better (aggregated, non-personal data only)

What We DON'T Do

✗Sell your data — We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties
✗Show targeted ads — We don't use your data for advertising. Coverse is ad-free.
✗Track you across the web — We don't use tracking pixels, third-party analytics, or cross-site tracking
✗Share with data brokers — Your information stays with Coverse, period

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard practices:

  • All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest
  • Passwords are hashed using bcrypt—we never store plain text passwords
  • Our database is hosted on secure, access-controlled infrastructure
  • We regularly review and update our security practices

While we implement strong security measures, no system is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your Coverse account.

Third-Party Services

We use minimal third-party services to operate Coverse:

  • Supabase — Database and authentication infrastructure
  • Email Service — For sending verification and notification emails
  • Cloud Storage — For storing uploaded images

These services are bound by their own privacy policies and are selected for their commitment to data protection. We only share the minimum data necessary for each service to function.

Your Rights

You have control over your data:

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:

  • Your profile and personal information are deleted immediately
  • Your posts and comments are anonymized or deleted within 30 days
  • Direct messages are deleted from your side (recipient copies may remain)
  • Some data may be retained if required by law or for abuse prevention

Cookies

We use only essential cookies required for the platform to function:

  • Authentication cookies — Keep you logged in
  • Session cookies — Remember your preferences during a session

We don't use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.

Children's Privacy

Coverse is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify members through the platform or via email. Continued use of Coverse after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
